St Mary's Church, Barnard Castle
St Mary's Church, Barnard Castle

St Mary's Church
St Mary's Church
The church of St Mary at Barnard Castle is mainly of Norman (11th-12th century) date, though the tower is 19th century. It may have been built by the Balliol family to replace an earlier church that became the chapel of the castle when it was surrounded by the castle defences. This is a Grade 1 listed building protected by law.
