Gate or Westgate Castle in Weardale was a defensible building that formed a hunting lodge at the west gate of the Bishop of Durham's hunting park (Stanhope Park) in Weardale. The site of the building lies within the village of Westgate and on the east bank of the Middlehope Burn. (6)

Site of a pele tower-cum-hunting lodge, probably built in the 14th century, and forming the western gatehouse to Stanhope Deer Park. The building was used to hold forest courts from 1442 and later served as a residence but was reported to be in a state of ruin by 1647. (15)
