Batter Law Round Barrow, Hawthorn

Possible round barrow, Batter Law (County Durham)
Possible round barrow, Batter Law (County Durham)
These are the poorly preserved remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. Archaeologists excavated it in 1911. They found the remains of a skeleton in a crouched position covered by stone slabs. It was found with a flint knife. Other flint tools and a small piece of pottery was also found. A fragment of burnt bone may have been all that remained of a cremation burial.
