"The Hurbuck Hoard", Little Greencroft, Lanchester (Lanchester)
An Early Medieval hoard of nineteen iron objects were found in the bank of Smallhope Burn in 1861. Objects found include two swords, four axes, a spearhead, four scythes, a pickaxe, brooches and parts of a buckle. It is thought that these probably date to the Viking period.
