A cup and ring marked stone stands on the east side of the Pennine Way footpath at this site. These carvings probably date to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age. Their purpose is not known, but they may have a religious meaning. These carvings are Scheduled Monuments protected by law. (1)

A prehistoric carved rock, partly covered in turf, is situated 170 metres south west of West Loups, Cotherstone Moor. It is on Great Allotment, approximately 23 metres west of the corner of the fence dividing the military Danger Area from Great Allotment. The visible part of the rock measures 2.5 metres by 1 metre by 0.1 metre high. The carving consists of many cups, one with a ring, four cups enclosed by a groove, and several other grooves (3).
