This is the site of the old fortified manor house of Snotterton, possibly of 15th century date, demolished and rebuilt as a farmhouse in 1831. (12)

The Baynbrigg family are recorded as having held Snotterton from at least 1469 until 1607, when George Baynbrigg sold the estate to Topby Ewbanke of Staindrop Hall. The old house was largely demolished in 1831; Surtees records that 'the old hall of Snotterton was a respectable mansion, with a square walled garden in front'. The coat and crest of Bainbrigge were sculptured over the principal door. Several of the windows were triple mullioned, and the walls had am embattled parapet, with crocketted pinnacles at the angles. The old hall was taken down, except for part of the shell, in 1831, and rebuilt as an excellent farmhouse, and is now called Raby Grange. The Old Hall of Snotterton was a respectable mansion, in late Gothic style. Traces of the old building can be seen in a stone window in the southeastern corner of the courtyard. (1)
