Heworth Deserted Medieval Village, Preston-le-Skerne, Mordon

This is the site of the Deserted Medieval Village of Heworth, which was first documented in the 11th century. The remains of enclosures and building platforms can still be seen as earthworks in the fields to the east and north-east of Heworth House. Areas of ridge and furrow are also visible.

Earthwork remains of the medieval village of Heworth, of pre-Conquest origin, the estate being documented circa 1435. Medieval settlement survives as earthworks which were surveyed at 1:1000 scale in 1983 and the site is visible on aerial photographs. Rectangular crofts, defined by turf covered banks, building platforms, a probable fishpond and associated ridge and furrow are visible.
