Pit alignment cropmark (Cornhill-on-Tweed)
Cropmark of pit alignment, visible on aerial photographs. (1)
A boundary of uncertain date and an Iron Age or Roman period pit alignment and ditch (see HER 1001) are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs at NT878 421.
The boundary consists of two double-ditched linear features (HER 1001). These features are crossed by a pit alignment The alignment of rectangular pits is visible between NT8774 4201 and NT8782 4217 and continues on, apparently as a ditch, to NT8777 4228. The overall length of this feature is 310m, it runs with the contour of the slope.
The date of the double-ditch linears is uncertain but the pit alignment is likely to be a land division of Iron Age or Roman date. (2a)
