Hoard of 1,206 silver coins found [details as above] beside the Corbridge to Ebchester road in a rectangular container. No archaeological examination of the site took place. The box was metal, sealed with wax, and individual sums may have been wrapped in cloth or parchment and sealed again. Coins declared treasure trove.
English coins of Edward I and II, Irish coins of Edward I, Scottish coins of Alexander III and John Baliol, five continental coins and one uncertain. Probably deposited somewhere between 1311 and 1312. (6)
Hoard acquired by Society of Antiquaries in 1959. Important because few English hoards of this date deposited and none of this size in the north. Around one-third of the coins are from mints of Newcastle, Durham, Berwick and York. (7)
