Clovencrag Sike Bloomery (Hepple)

These are the remains of a probable medieval iron smelting site. There are two mounds of slag, as well as the remains of two stone huts. (1-3)

The site consists of two slag heaps comprised of tap slag measuring 3m by 3m and 4m by 5m with both up to 1m high. The remains of two stone contemporary buildings are also located on the site. The first building, measuring 5m by 4m, is situated 12m north of the slag heaps and is oval shaped. The second building is circular and is located to the north west of the first and measures 4m diameter. (4a-b)
