Medieval cattle park (Kirkwhelpington)

Square cattle park alongside green track with a funnel entrance. (Noted by the Field Research Group of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle). (2)
Rectangular enclosure measuring 36m south west-north east by 25m with an entrance on the south east side. There is a small stone lined cell adjacent to the entrance. The bank stands on average 0.2m high with an external ditch and counterscarp bank. A linear bank runs north eastward for c.200m from the north corner. A series of well defined earth and stone banks connects this enclosure with another one (NY 98 SE 50). (3)
This site has been recorded by English Heritage in aerial photographic work as an Iron Age or Roman rectangular enclosure. The enclosure is formed by a ditch with an internal bank and measure approximately 37m x 25m. A possible outer bank is partially visible along the south-eastern side. A potential entrance is visible a quarter of the way along the southern side of the enclosure (see HER 33907). (4)
