Iron Age defended settlement and Neolithic cup marked stone on Great Wanney Crag (Kirkwhelpington)

Great Wanney. An irregular earthwork with a single rampart. (2)
Listed under pre Roman Iron Age univallate works (forts, settlements and enclosures). (3)
An irregular-shaped enclosure formed by a denuded stone rampart and slight outer ditch, well defined except on the south west side, it has a causewayed entrance on the south east side, but no internal remains. Its siting, on the edge of Great Wanney Crag on the 1000ft contour is clearly defensive and an Iron Age origin is probable. Resurveyed at 1:2500. (4)
NY 9317 8338. Univallate hillfort on Great Wanney Crag. Scheduled RSM No 20997. The hillfort measures 97m NE-SW by 50m NW-SE within a single rampart of earth and stone 7m broad and 1.2m above the bottom of an outerditch 3m wide. There is a funnel-shaped entrance in the SE side, carried across the ditch on a causeway. (5)
At NY 93238340 lies a cup marked stone with a groove. A group of at least five others, but well worn, lie on the edge of the cliff face within the enclosure. (6)
