The Heads bastle (Corsenside)
This derelict farmhouse is probably built on the remains of a bastle. The ground floor walls contain large blocks of stone and have a boulder plinth. The byre doorway survives in the west end but only one of its jambs is exposed. The front and rear walls measure over 1m thick at ground level and the bastle measures 11.8m by 6.54m. A Roman carving of Mars is said to be built in the wall above the backdoor but this was not seen on a visit in the 1990s.
