Robin of Risingham (Corsenside)
(Name centred NY 90158536) Robin of Risingham (Rems of). (1)
Robin of Risingham, a figure cut in relief on a rock detached from a quarry cliff. Before mutilation, shortly before December 1819 (3), the figure, wearing a tunic and holding a bow in its right hand and a hare in its left, stood to a height of approx 4ft. There was a panel above it and a rectangular block, probably an altar, to its right. (2)
The bow and hare would associate the figure with hunting, probably Silvanus perhaps in the guise of Cocidius. (2)(3)
