Groat Haugh cropmark enclosure (Norham)

NT 899452. Groat Haugh. Enclosure; linear cropmark. (1)

Penannular enclosure on terrace of river Tweed. Sub-circular, defined by a medium to narrow ditch tapering towards single entrance. Faint internal features; no traces of a bank. Cannot be ruled out as a possible henge-related monument. (2)

Surveyed during RCHME Roman Camps in England Project, 1988. 1:2500 transcription shows a group of cropmarks to the W of Norham Roman Camp (NT 84 NE 6), including several ring ditches of varying sizes, linears aligned NNW-SSE and the faint curved corners to 2 enclosures. Full information is included in the NMR Archive. (4a-b)
