Turret 27a (Chesters) (Humshaugh)
NY 9119 7016. Turret 27A (GSC) (site of) (T.I.) (1)
The remains of Turret 27a were found in 1945, underlying the visible fort (of Cilurnum), 136ft west of the inner face of its main east gateway. It is not at present exposed. (2)
The only foundation work both of Broad Wall and turret surviving was a single layer of clay and massive cobbles, worked stone having been entirely removed when the fort was built. (3)

Scheduling revised on 14th July 1997, part of national monument number 26051. Turret 27a, which occupied part of the site before the fort was built, was discovered by excavation during 1945. It was found to lie about 42m west of the inner face of the east gateway. (6)
No visible trace; a marker board is on the position of the turret at NY 9119 7017. (7a)
