Merchingley deserted medieval village (Broomhaugh and Riding; Slaley)
In 1262 the medieval settlement of Merchingley was documented as having six holdings and one cottage. However, by 1346 it had been totally destroyed by the Scots and there is no evidence that it was ever resettled. It precise location is not known, but it may have stood near the March Burn.
