Blanchland Abbey (Blanchland)
[Centred NY 9660 5037] Abbey [G.T.] (Rems of). (1)
Blanchland was a Premonstratensian Abbey, dependent on Croxton (Leics). It was founded by Walter de Bolbec III in 1615 and was dissolved in 1539. In 1704 it was purchased by Lord Crewe, Bishop of Durham, with whose trustees it remains. (2-5)
The remains of the Abbey are in good condition. Many carved stones are incorporated in the walls of adjacent cottage or lying loose in gardens and rockeries. (6)
