The earthwork remains of two hut circles, a farmstead and a field system, all of prehistoric date, lie on the western edge of Burntshieldhaugh Fell. The farmstead is a subrectangular enclosure with walls of earth and stone around it with three hut circles attached to the outside of the western wall. Around the farmstead lies a contemporary field system made up of sinuous banks and lines of boulders which define plots of land, or fields. The field system is crossed by a trackway that runs downhill from the side of the farmstead. The possible remains of two earlier hut circles lie within the field system and may be Bronze Age in date.
