Quaker burial ground (Otterburn)
(NY 88839301) The Quaker's burial place at Otterburn forms at present part of a field farmed by the writer's father. It was about 20 yards square, situated on the right side of the road immediately after passing the gate of Otterburn leading to Girsonfield. It may be about 100 yards south-east from the Hall. The soil is rich and black and seems to have been well selected for a burying ground. Jane Carr, widow, a Quaker, is recorded as having been buried at Otterburn, 18th February 1686. (1)
On the south side of the modern east-west road through Otterburn, opposite the junction with the road to Girsonfield, is a field of pasture on a gentle south-west slope, covered with rig and furrow ploughing. It is bounded on the east side by the road leading south to Old Town, and east of it are modern houses and gardens. Nowhere are traces of the burial ground to be found, and there is no local knowledge of it or of its site. (2)
