Romano-British settlement on Fairney Cleugh (Otterburn)
NY 878963. Fairney Cleugh 1. A probable Romano-British unenclosed forecourt settlement with three huts. (See plan). (1)
NY 87849629. Situated on a slight plateau, with steep slopes to the south and a stream gulley directly to the north are the poorly preserved remains of a probable Romano-British homestead visible as a mutilated sub-circular enclosure about 20m diameter between the centres of a turf-covered stone wall 1m high and spread to 3m. A platform about 10m diameter is set in the north-east. There is no trace of the huts or continuation of the enclosure wall to the east as shown on authority 1's plan. The remains are almost certainly contemporary with the nearby Romano-British homestead (see NY 89 NE 19). Surveyed at 1:10,000. (2)
