Field system on Barracker Rigg (Otterburn)
NY 881979. Sixteen burial cairns, average diameter 5m, height 0.3m. Good kerbs visible. (1)
Centred at NY 88169797 on a gentle south-east facing slope at approximately 298m OD are the remains of a field system, defined by stony banks and lynchets, with numerous round, irregular and linear clearance heaps (undoubtedly the 'burial cairns' referred to by authority 1). Slight traces of a probable extension to this system are evident at NY 88359821 approximately 300m to the north-east. No definite field sizes.
It is possible that this field system is associated with the Romano-British settlement 500m to the south-east (NY 99 NE 12). (2)
Scheduled. (3)
Additional reference. (4)
