Roman cemetery at Carrawburgh (Newbrough and Fourstones)
NY 860711. Cemetery. (1)
Hodgson c.1838 (2a) noted a cemetery between the fort of Brocolitia and milecastle 31, only 120 yards to the east. (2)
Recent excavations, prior to the construction of a car park in this area, have uncovered foundations of Roman buildings at NY85987124 but no evidence of a cemetery. Foundations surveyed at 1:2500; the area is otherwise featureless. (3)

Notes by Lingard made in 1807 record bones between Carrawburgh fort and Milecastle 31 (5a), and Hodgson (2a) learnt before 1840 that urned cremations had been found by men working the quarry, cutting the Vallum 200m E of the fort (at NY 8617 7127) (5a)
Excavation in 1964, ahead of a car park construction revealed remains of two buildings, one interpreted as a temple or funerary monument, but no burials were found. (5b)
