South Carrawburgh Iron Age enclosure (Newbrough and Fourstones)

Listed by Hogg under South Carrowbrough, and classified by him under 'Native' sites. (2)

A roughly semi-circular earthwork enclosure in the shelter of a rocky bluff. See 1/1250 sketch survey. (3)

Correctly described above. Resurveyed at 1/2500. (4)

A semicircular earthwork, defined by a prominent ditch, was identified from aerial photographs. It stands in the shelter of a rocky bluff which overlooks the site from the west. (5)

A roughly semi-circular enclosure of probable Iron Age date was seen below the east side of a rocky outcrop at NY 8690 7067 and mapped from air photographs. The enclosure is defined by a broad ditch 4 m wide which has an external bank, most noticeable on the north-east. The enclosure is 52 m broad north-south. (6a)
