Roman centurial stone (Simonburn)
A Roman centurial stone 14ins wide by 9ins high is built into the rear wall of an outbuilding to Sharpley farm at NY 87907238 (2). The stone is an ordinary Wall facing-stone, very weathered but with a clear inscription within an inset panel which reads (Centuria) Romu(lei) Pro(culi). The stone must have come from somewhere on Limestone Bank. (1)(2)
