Bronze spearheads (Chollerton)
Two bronze spearheads, unsocketed, were found by a workman 18 inches below surface, when breaking new ground in Park House Quarry, near Chipchase Castle.
The site is in a beechwood, where a ravine carrying a tributary of the North Tyne changes direction from south west to south, and where a patch leads down into the glen [apparently the quarries at NY 879768].
They were exhibited to the Society of Antiquaries, Newcastle, in 1871. Two small, socketed bronze axes were also found here in 1874, a few feet from where the spearheads were picked up.
Many implements [no details] have previously been found in the quarry. (1)(2)
The spearheads (leaf-shaped) and the axes are in the British Museum. (3)
No further information. (4)
