Langley medieval settlement (Haydon)
Langley was the centre of a barony of the same name. Medieval documents help to give some idea of how many people lived here at that time. Documents such as the Lay Subsidy of 1296 record 17 taxpayers here, although some neighbouring hamlets seem to have been included as well. It is not clear whether there was a village at Langley itself and no earthworks of a medieval village have been found.
