Bronze Age cist from West Wharmley (Haydon)
(NY 8800 6722) (1) A short cist, (2ft 3ins x 1ft 9ins) was discovered on March 3rd, 1928, by Mr Johnson of West Wharmley Farm, when ploughing; it contained fragments of a skeleton and a short-necked beaker. There was no trace of a covering mound. The cist was removed to Stagshaw House, Corbridge, where the capstone is still visible at NY 98546680; the remainder being buried on the other side of the garden path. Mr Hedley (1) retained the beaker (3). See AO/56/53/4. (2)
