Newbrough Iron Age farmstead (Newbrough and Fourstones)
(NY 8782 6768) Crop-mark 'Native site' or 'sub-Roman'. Two ditches rather widely spaced, astride a ridge top. (1)
'NY 877677' Part of sub-rectangular enclosure surrounded by what appears to be two palisade trenches. Listed under palisaded works, probably Romano-British. (2)
There are no surface indications of this enclosure. Jobey now classifies the site as 'pre-Roman Iron Age'. (3)
NY 877677. Iron Age sub-rectangular enclosure with wide-spaced double palisade at Newbrough listed by Challis and Harding. (4)
Iron Age enclosure visible as cropmarks on air photographs taken in 1994. The enclosure consists of two ditches, up to 2 metres wide and spaced between 12 and 18 metres apart. The western corner of the enclosure has a straight stretch of ditch. The enclosure as a whole appears to be 'D'shaped rather than subrectangular.
The enclosure lies within a larger rectilinear enclosure (NY 86 NE 17) which is assumed to be a temporary Roman camp. (5a)
