Possible site of Roman signal tower (Haydon)

Nothing is visible on the RAF aerial photographs. (1)

NY 825678 Site of earthwork visible on aerial photographs. Size and plan (c.60 feet square with rounded corners) accords with the dimensions of a Roman signal station, but there are no surface indications. (2)

A signal station would probably have been needed at this point to provide an adequate link with that on Barcombe, and maintain communications along the line of the Stanegate. (3)

There are no visible surface indications of this feature. The site, however, is well suited for a signal tower. (4)

The feature described above is a probable duplicate of NY 86 NW 3 (HER 7555) and is fully described in that record. General association with HER 12391 (Stanegate). (5)
