Arrowhead (West Allen)
A small barbed and tanged arrowhead was found by Mrs Dickinson, at Dryburn Chimney, Allendale, on March 24th 1946. Now in my possession. (1)
On the surface of the ground around the chimneys to the west of Allendale town, on the highest point of the moors between East and West Allen, where the vegetation has been destroyed by fumes, are found numerous prehistoric objects in flint etc., consisting of hatchets, arrowheads, knives, thumb flints etc, some looking as though they had been subjected to fire. Many of these objects were exhibited by the respective finders on 21 September 1896. (2)
Three flints, one a barbed and tanged arrowhead found near Flow Edge on Allendale Common, from Mr J B Harrison, per Mr W P Hedley, donated to the Society. (3)
No further information. Flow Edge and Dryburn Chimney are situated at NY 8020 5365 and
NY 8075 5370 respectively. (4)
