Haltwhistle town (Haltwhistle)
The medieval settlement of Haltwhistle probably included the manor mill, the church and Castle Hill. From place name evidence there may have even been an early medieval settlement here. The earliest documentary evidence is from the 12th century Melrose Chronicle. Many of the boundaries of building plots used today probably have their origins in medieval times.
