Turret 38b, located by exploratory excavation in 1911, is on the summit of Highshield Crags, above the western end of Crag Lough. (2)(3)
The remains consist of a small stony hollowed-out mound. Surveyed at 1:2500. (4)

The turret was located in 1911 (7b). The turret is visible as a platform 13.4m E-W x 6.8m N-S at NY 76396785; there is an internal scarp up to 0.3m high. (7a)

The remains of the turret, centred at NY 76392 67854, together with the road which connected it to the Military Way, are visible as earthworks on air photographs. The road is of approximately the same width (5-6 metres) as the Military Way. (7d)
