Turret 37b (Hotbank Crag) (Bardon Mill)

Turret 37b, located by exploratory excavation in 1911, is at the west end of Hotbank Crags. (2)(3)
The site is indicated by a stone-studded earthen platform. Surveyed at 1:2500. (4)

The turret was located in 1911 (7b). The turret is visible at NY 7758 6847 as a platform 10m NE-SW by 6.3m transversely and up to 1.4m high. A small enclosure, possibly contemporary, is on the E side. (7a)
The earthwork remains of both turret and enclosure, as identified by authority 5, are visible on air photographs and were mapped as part of the Hadrian's Wall National Mapping Project. Additionally the road linking the turret with the Military Way was also identified. The width of the road is approximately 4 metres which is broadly comparable to that of the Military Way. (7c)
