Large quarries of post medieval date are recorded as earthworks on aerial photographs to the north of Hallpeatmoss in Melkridge parish, on the west side of the junction with the B6318 road in area centred on NY 728 661. A large quarry occurs at NY 7288 6624, with a smaller one to the south, at NY 7287 6604. A large limekiln is visible at NY 7292 6623, and what appears to be a tramway connecting it to the southern quarry. (5a-b)
