Hethpool Tower House (Kirknewton)

Only three walls of the tower survive, rising to a maximum height of 5m, and ivy-clad. (3)

Ruins of probable tower. Three walls ?rectangular structure c.7m wide and at least 7m long, built of large rubble. South-west and south-east walls c.1.6m thick, north-east wall c.0.6m. South-east wall has internal set-back at first floor level, and window or recess above. All walls, and especially external faces, heavily ivyed. The 1541 list refers to a 'lytle stone house or pyle' (although Ramm et al state the reference is to a bastle). Medieval or sub-medieval building in garden east of Hethpool House. (6)
