Blacklaw Cross (West Allen)

One of five wayside crosses across Alston Moor. The other sites include: Hartside, Long, Kilhope and Shorts Crosses. Blacklaw Cross lies on an ancient route between Corbridge and Penrith, which is first documented in 1279. (1)

"Blake Cairn or Blakelawes cross"; the site of a boundary cross on the road to Wellhope, mentioned in an old "Bounder". (2b)

There are now no visible remains of a cross or cairn. (2c)
