Sandboard Knowe farm, Kielder Water (Falstone)
A small 17th or 18th century farm once stood on Sandboard Knowe. The earthwork remains were first described in the mid-19th century and were excavated in 1974 before Kielder Water reservoir was flooded. The farm comprised a house with one room with evidence of a hearth. Around the hearth were pieces of broken tobacco pipes that are thought to be 17th or 18th century in date. The house was probably abandoned about this time. The house seems to have stood on top of an earlier pit, although its date is not known, and a piece of late medieval pottery was also found.
