Noble Shields farmstead (Tarset with Greystead)
(213) Noble Shields (NY 64417707) hut 90 (See NY 67 NW 9) has associated with it another building the platform of which is 26ft square, the two being connected by a curved wall. Two enclosures 30 yards south west contain lazy beds. To the north 300-350 acres of meadow and better pasture of Windy Hill have been enclosed by a 25-20ft wide ditch with internal bank. (1)
The area is a low lying one, very marshy in places and overgrown with rough pasture and deep tussock grass. It has been severely mutilated by deep drains about 5m apart with their contents forming high banks alongside. All this has broken up the area and all that is now visible is an area of lighter green (more luxuriant grass) than the surrounding area but no trace of the farmstead buildings, enclosures or lazy beds could be seen.
Windy Hill (NY 646775) has been deep drained and afforested and no trace of the enclosed area could be seen. (2)
A corn drying kiln is associated with the shieling (NY 67 NW 9) attached to the south east corner on a platform 26ft square. (3)
