Church of Holy Paraclete (Knaresdale with Kirkhaugh)

The Church of the Holy Paraclete, built in 1868-9, incorporates a 13th century west window preserved from its predecessor. (2) (see illust. card)
A Roman altar, brought from Whitley Castle [NY 64 NE 12] formerly stood in the church yard, but is now lost. (3)

As described. Church still in use and in good condition. (5)
Parish church, built in 1869 by the Rector, Octavius James on a medieval site. (6)
Church includes white marble tablet inscribed "1914 THE GREAT WAR 1918/ KIRKHAUGH ROLL OF HONOUR/ MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ (NAMES)/ MEN WHO SERVED/ (NAMES)". (7)
