Hawkhope Hole post-medieval deserted village (Kielder)
Hawkhope Hole lies on the England/Scotland border. It was a settlement in the 17th and 18th centuries, when it consisted of at least 18 houses with attached fields or garths. Archaeologists think the village might have been founded by fugitives from the Scottish clearances. The layout of the village can be seen from the earthworks, which are all that remain of it.
