Built in 1940 as part of the coastal defences. The building was identified as a non-designated heritage asset in the Embleton Neighbourhood Plan (2020). (4)(5)
Standard D-shaped Northumberland pillbox, constructed 1940-1 of reinforced concrete, Embleton village, as part of the Northumberland Coast Defences. Extant when surveyed 1996. (6a)
Examination of EH deskGIS mapping locates the pillbox at the SW end of the village, on the west side of the B1339. (6b)
Described as a World War II pillbox which stood at the south end of Embleton village. It was built of concrete and was D-shaped in plan. Reference Number: N5868. The map link shows that it is the same pillbox as that in source (6a). (6c) [The use of the past tense may indicate that the monument is no longer be extant?]
A Second World War pillbox is visible as a structure on air photographs, centred at NU 2312 2240. This feature and another pillbox to the north (UID 1417833) are protecting the approaches to the village of Embleton. The pillbox is still extant on the latest 1999 Ordnance Survey vertical photography. (6d)
