Hospital at Embleton founded before 1314. Type, dedication and date of dissolution not known. (1)
A hospital, possibly for lepers, existed in the neighbourhood of Embleton at a place called Spiteldene. Nothing is now known of it, but south of Embleton the road crosses Embleton Burn at a spot called Spittleford (OS 6 inch 1925 spells this Spitalford) (Spittleford on OS 6 inch 1860). (2)
No further siting information. (3)
A member of the Embleton Local History Society suggests it was associated with Eleanor de Montford, sister of Henry III.
