Iron Age/Roman period farmstead north of Low Stead (Longhoughton)
NU 252160. Sub-rectangular ditched settlement enclosure, probably Iron Age or Romano-British date. Photographed from the air in 1981. (1)
Three sides of the enclosure define an area about 58m square, with a small irregular annexe attached to the south-west corner. (2)
Two Iron Age/Roman enclosures are visible as cropmarks on air photographs, centred at NU 2514 1601. The larger of the two is rectilinear in plan with a maximum internal dimension of 71m, with only the west half being visible. Attached to this on the west side is a smaller curvilinear ditched enclosure with a dimension of 32m. (3a)
