Burial Mound (Warkworth)

[NU 22130711] In 1943 while ploughing this field, which has no particular name, at the point shown approximately, I came upon a big stone. Underneath it were two upright stones with a space between them. The stones were taken out and used for road repairing; in the space I took out a human jawbone which is still in my possession. When I find it, I will send it to you for your inspection. There was no mound to mark the site. (1)

The site of this find is in a field newly ploughed; there are no indications of a barrow in the field to mark the site. As described it would appear that Mr Thompson had come upon a Bronze Age cist burial, but this must remain only probable until later information comes to light. He has promised to send any further finds to Arch. Division. (2)

No further information; Mr Thompson has now left Sturton Grange. (3)
