Bronze Age axe head found near Mart Station (Easington (Northumberland))

(NU 12353380) A bronze socketed axe head found when digging the foundations of a grain dryer at the Mart Field close to Belford Station in 1944 was donated to the Society of Antiquaries Newcastle on 30/1/1946 by J Davidson, Managing Director of the Belford and District Farmers' Auction Mart Ltd. It is 3-1/4 inches long and 1-7/8 inches wide at the cutting edge and is most probably an import from Ireland. (1)(2)

NU 12383380. The grain dryer is situated on level ground. No surface indications of antiquity in the vicinity. (3)
