Greensfield Moor Farm burial cist (Denwick)
In a field in the south east corner of Greensfield Moor Farm, where it slopes towards the Cawledge Burn, a complete cist of limestone slabs was discovered in June 1868, orientation WSW-ENE, length 4ft 2ins, breadth 2ft 1in, depth 1ft 10ins. Contents of cist included an inhumation burial of a young person, a fine urn, and a flint implement, probably an awl. (1)
No further information was discovered regarding the site of this cist or the present whereabouts of the finds.
The fields of Greensfield Moorhouse that lie to the immediate north of Cawledge Burn are under grass and plough. Where these fields meet the dene through which Cawledge Burn runs the ground drops sharply, the slopes being overgrown, with rock outcrops in places. No trace of a cist was seen in any of them. The farmer, who has lived there since 1936, could offer no information. (2)
