Malcolm's Well (Denwick)
(NU 18791440) Malcolm's Well. (1)
This well was discovered together with the foundations of St Leonard's (NU 11 SE 4) in 1845 when ploughing a field called Radcliff's Close. (2)
The chronicles of Alnwick Abbey state that the chapel of St Leonard was founded near the spring called Malcolm's Well where Malcolm was mortally wounded in 1093. The well is four of five feet deep and from its antique appearance, and being so near the chapel, there is little
doubt that this is the identical spring mentioned in the old chronicles. (3)
The well appears to have been filled in, leaving only a broken stone circle visible. (4)
Condition unchanged. (5)
Scheduled. (6)

General association with HER 24250. (7)
