Bronze Age cists, Lemmington (Edlingham)
A number of cists have been found in draining around Lemmington Hall but no pottery was discovered. The site was on a portion of sloping ground near the hall, on the right of the Lemmington bank road which runs on to Lemmington Hill and is called 'The Pillar Planting'. (1)
Area NU 125 115. The field called 'Pillar Field' (a) agrees with the topographical description by Hardy. The situation is typical of other cist burials in this part of Northumberland (sloping ground overlooking water) and the field is considered to be the probable site of these finds, although there are no surface indications.
