Stone axehead from Lanehead (Newton-on-the-Moor and Swarland; Felton)
[Marginal] Axehead of dolerite found at Lanehead, Felton in 1931. Length 5-1/2 inches, cutting edge 2-7/8 inches. Butt end pointed. Of Neolithic date. (1)
[NU 17310234] I found the axehead during the very dry summer of 1931. It was lying on the bed of a dried up burn just north of the footpath that runs between Lanehead and East House. [Approximate site of find indicated by Mr Irons]. I gave the axe to Mr A R Robson of Old Swarland who lent it to the Blackgate Museum, Newcastle. (2)
